Episcopal Church Scholarships

Deadline: Usually around April

There are more than 60 scholarships offered by the Episcopal Church. Scholarships are available for ethnic communities, children of missionaries, bishops and clergy, and other particular wide-ranging eligibility for education and training.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to read each trust and identify in the application those trust funds that best fit their own profile.

Requirements for applying for the scholarships include: the applicant must be an Episcopalian, must be a member of the Episcopal Church, and must have the endorsement of his/her bishop.

DuBos Scholarship

Deadline: Usually around April

Income from endowment funds established by the assets of the DuBose Memorial Church Training School of Monteagle, Tennessee, is available to assist candidates who are 32 years of age or older. Contact  dubosefd@sewanee.edu for more information.

The Episcopal Church Foundation

Deadline: Usually around March

Through the Fellowship Partners Program, ECF awards fellowships for both academic and transformational ministries.  In return, Fellows share their knowledge, experience, and best practices with the wider Church in practical ways.  The emphasis is on partnerships that will have an important impact in their local communities and beyond, and enhance lay and clergy leadership formation.  ECF seeks relationships with Fellows not only when they are receiving financial support, but over the long haul, so that our community of Fellows may serve as a gift and resource to the Church in serving God’s mission.

Applications from both lay and clergy are welcome.  Awards range up to $15,000 and Fellows may apply to renew grants for up to three years (renewal grants are capped at $10,000). Evangelical Education Society

The Evangelical Education Society of the Episcopal Church makes Evangelism for the 21st Century grants of up to $5,000 for special initiatives to Episcopalians at ATS-accredited schools. For further information, visit their website at www.ees1862.org or contact office@ees1862.org

Fund for Theological Education, Inc.

Deadline: Usually around November

• North America Ministerial Fellowships are open to citizens of Canada and the United States who are at least graduating seniors from colleges and universities, who are not already attending a theological school, and who are prepared to enroll in a theological school in the autumn following the awarding of their fellowships.

• The Benjamin E. Mays Fellowships for Ministry are for black North American persons who are at least graduating seniors from a college or university, official candidates for ministerial ordination within their communion, and are either enrolled in a theological school or are prepared to enroll in the autumn following receipt of an award.

• Fellowships for Hispanic Americans Preparing for Christian Ministries are for Hispanics who at the time of nomination are citizens of the United States, at least juniors in an accredited college or university, and are either enrolled in a theological school or prepared to enroll in the autumn following receipt of an award.

Church Training & Deaconess House Scholarship Fund

Deadline: Usually around March

Funds are available to women seeking to be ordained to the ministry or for a post-baccalaureate degree program which would further her lay ministry.

• Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis.

• Consideration is given to excellence of academic record, quality of the essay and financial need.

• Preference is given to residents of the Diocese of Pennsylvania.

• The Committee prefers to give a limited number of grants in the $2,000-$3,000 range rather than numerous smaller grants.

• Grants are for one academic year, but may be renewable for two additional years. Candidates for the Vocational Diaconate may apply for further renewals.

• Grants are paid semi-annually, directly to the Seminary or post-graduate institution.

The Order of the Daughters of the King

This grant is for female applicants seeking training in any recognized church-related college, seminary, or training school in the United States or abroad. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and have at least two years of college education or its equivalent. The Order of the Eastern Star Religious Leadership Scholarships

These scholarships aid students preparing for the ministry or for any form of religious leadership. Applicants should write to the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in their home state. Address of state chapter can be obtained from any local chapter.

Roothbert Fund, Inc.

Qualified students from high school to postgraduate levels who can satisfy fairly high scholastic requirements and who are considering teaching as their vocation are eligible for this grant. Society for the Increase of the Ministry

Deadline: Usually around March

These scholarships are an amazing and wonderful resource and can add up to thousands of dollars of financial aid over the course of your studies, because they are renewable for additional years that you are in seminary. Most of our students who have applied and received grants have received $2,000 to $4,000 scholarships per year.   But the process of applying does take some time and some commitment, so please do not procrastinate if you are interested!  To find out more go to www.simministry.org.  If you have other questions than the information provided on the website you can email contactandinfo@simministry.org and Ruth McElraevy will be happy to answer your questions.
