Bloy House School for Deacons
The Bloy House two-year Diaconal Studies program will offer our diaconal postulants local, in-person, affordable, and accessible formation for their eventual ministry in our diocese. This is not a regular running program. It will be offered when the diocese needs it.
During the first year, the students will take classes comprising typical academic subjects for a theological education. During the second year, the classes will lean towards practical, integrative, and contextual formation.
Over the two-year period, most instruction will occur on Friday nights and Saturdays. Each course will be comprised of 12 hours of instruction. The instruction will be divided into four teaching weekends, with three hours per class session. A teaching weekend will have a class on Friday night, a class on Saturday morning and a class on Saturday afternoon. Students will complete nine months of fieldwork in a parshish seting during year one of the program.
Cohort meetings for reflection/interaction/field ed supervision will be monthly on a non-teaching weekend. Students will be expected to attend all classes, participate in discussions and cohort meetings, complete the readings, and fulfill any individual class requirements the instructor may identify, such as papers/projects/exams. Upon completion of the progam students will be receive a Certificate of Diaconal Studies.
Total Tuition Cost: $7,000 (note: Diocesan/Bloy House scholarships are available to offset a portion of this cost)
Bloy House will offer and schedule this program at the request of the diocese when diaconal postulants are raised up through discernment. All program details and costs are subject to change.
